Planet saving tips
Written by Simon Leadbetter
Our attention at Scaramanga has been recently focussed on net zero and the harm being done to our planet, so here are some of my top tips.
This article has been assigned the following categories: Sustainability,
I appreciate that some of these are more controversial than others.
- Do not leave the tap running when brushing your teeth
- Turn the flow of water down when scrubbing yourself with soap in the shower rather than step aside and let the water go down the plughole
- I like to collect the water from the glasses my family take to bed (just in case they get thirsty during the night but rarely do) and use it to water plants
- Don’t flush the toilet every time you pee
- Drink water from the tap rather than buy it in a plastic bottle
- Never ever ever use a coffee capsules just to make coffee
- Buy loose fruit and veg using a reusable bag
- Reuse plastic toothbrushes for scrubbing/cleaning those hard to reach places in your house or your bike chain.
- Use a bamboo toothbrush
- Never have more shoes than the fingers you can count on your left hand. Get your shoes repaired rather than buy a new pair. This one will upset a few people I know.
- Eat less or no meat
- Pee in the shower! Before you judge, I was once told that there are two types of people: those that pee in the shower and liars
- Non electric toothbrushes, carving knifes, can openers and other kitchen utility tools work really well too
- Finally, use a solar powered calculator (mine is still going strong after two decades of use)
