Control Energy Costs brand refresh
In 2019, Scaramanga rebranded Control Energy Costs, a business energy consultant, with a full new identity. This included a new logo, typeface, colour palette and style.
We developed brand guidelines, designed new collateral and designed and built a new website.
By 2024, the business had evolved. There has been a huge growth over the last five years, both in terms of clients and the team, as well as the launch of several new services over that time. A merger and several new partnerships had also been completed.
As Control Energy Costs’ marketing partner, the team here at Scaramanga are happy to have played a part in the success and growth.

Project overview
This change in client base to larger organisations and the broader range of services being offered, meant that it was time to refresh the brand to make it less brochureware and more direct call to action.
After discussions with Control Energy Costs, we finalised the creative brief, to ensure that we were all on the same page, then got to work.
Objectives
The core elements of the brief were to:
- Showcase the team, especially using photography, to show the face of the brand, as their service is a key differentiator
- Incorporate the updated brand values and messaging of: ownership, partnership and agility
- Develop a more direct, take action now, approach
Our approach
Whilst we retained the core logo and typeface, we moved away from the dark background to a more open and light, using white as the main background.
We introduced a new set of secondary colours, with a softer more pastel approach, which could be used to differentiate the different types of content.
Once the brand – and updated brand guidelines – we signed off, we then moved on to updating all the marketing collateral, including brochures, factsheets and the website. We also designed new templates for their social media marketing.
We recommended photographer Ally Whitlock to Control Energy Costs, to take new headshots of the team, as well as natural, unposed office shots of people at work to use in the brochure and website.

We also designed a “360 degree” graphic to show how all the different services that they offer work together as a whole, even if a client only uses some of them.

Printed collateral
Previously, we had written and designed a suite of brochures for Control Energy Costs, however the client now felt that a single brochure that covered everything they offer would be more appropriate.
This required careful copywriting to obtain the balance and also showcase the core services, incorporating the new services resulting from their merger with ECS Connections and illustrating with client case studies and testimonials. The client was very happy with the resulting 24-page brochure.
The factsheets were all updated, both from a design and copy perspective, to complement the brochure design. We also design a new exhibition stand and updated all business stationery with the new design.

New website
We also fully reviewed the UX and UI of the website design, so that the new site would be accessible and would help the visitor get to what they were interested in as quickly as possible.
We achieved this through a panel on the home page that asks the visitor questions about what they are looking for, so that the site can take them to the relevant area.

As with the previous website that Scaramanga built for Control Energy Costs, the new site was built in Craft CMS.
