Client overview
The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) is home to Freemasonry in England, Wales, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and several Districts overseas.
Thriving for over 300 years, and one of the oldest secular social and charitable organisations in the world, modern Freemasonry’s roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our castles and cathedrals.
For Freemasons, four important values help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect and Service. Membership is open to men over 18 from all backgrounds and the organisation’s aim is to empower members to make a positive contribution to society.

After a competitive tender, Scaramanga was appointed by UGLE in August 2022 to design a print and digital A5 brochure to promote the gifts and regalia that are sold in the Shop at Freemasons’ Hall.
The goal of the brochure is to spread awareness about the products and drive traffic to both the physical and online shops.

Our approach
Scaramanga designed, art directed, copywrote, project managed and organised the printing of 10,000 copies of the brochure. We also teamed up with renowned photographer, Richard Gleed, to shoot the lifestyle and product images for the brochure. Richard had previously worked with UGLE, so this helped to keep the photography consistent with the brand’s other marketing assets.
We worked with Venetia Curling, the Buyer/Merchandiser at the Shop at the Freemasons’ Hall, to shortlisted which products should be included in the brochure and ensure the pricing was correct for all the products in the brochure. We also worked with Michelle Worvell, former Director of Communications and Marketing at UGLE, who was the project sponsor.
The print brochures were mailed out to members and Chapters, placed in high-traffic visitor areas in Freemasons’ Hall and inserted into the Freemasonry Today Magazine. The online brochure lives on the Shop at Freemasons’ Hall page on their website.

Outcome
Delivering the final brochure in November 2022, the client was impressed with the quality of the brochure and our management of the overall project and said they would work with us again.
